Auckland Trotting Club Fixed Odds
Wagering Report 23 July 2010
Race
1: Winner - Magnum Opus $7.50 - $8.50
All the late money came for ‘Unleash The Fury’ (2nd) $6.60
- $3.50 but one of the first bets taken was $1,000 at $3.50 on ‘Seshny Bromac’
(4th). The largest wager held on the winner ‘Magnum Opus’ was $150 at $7.50 and
she closed a winning result for us. The only losing results were ‘Unleash The
Fury’ and ‘Manhatten Cruzer’ (10th)$5.00 - $5.50.
Race
2: Winner - Millwood Munchkin $6.00 -
$6.50
The winner was a small losing result with the largest
wager on her $100 so obviously a lot of our smaller wagering customers were on
her. The largest wager on the race $1,000 at $3.50 ‘Diedre’s Flash’ (8th). The
best backed runner in the race was ‘Canyouwatchoverme’ (5th) our $2.60
favourite and he and the winner closed as the only losing results on the race.
Outside the first three favourites it was hard to lay any other runner.
Race
3: Winner - Mighty Creation $2.50 -
$2.20
We took the favourite ‘Mighty Creation’ on thinking he
would end up three back the fence and that went to plan but he got a clear run
at the top of the race and it was all over. Largest wager on the winner was
$1,000 at $2.50 and he closed as our only losing result. ‘Backup Mac’ (5th) took
a $500 wager at $21 and ‘Maheer Monarch’ (4th) took a $500 wager at $8.00.
Race
4: Winner - De Lovely $1.04
The largest wager on the winner was $6,700 followed by
$6,000. We were losing double figures on
the only other two runners in the race and the winner was a good result. The
winner was heavily backed in multi-wagers with the majority of tickets
including ‘All Tiger’ & ‘St George Dragons’ at $1.20.
Race
5: Winner - Don Giovanni $4.50
We never moved the odds on the winner but he was well backed
and we only won a very small amount on him which hurt as we did risk the
favourite ‘Motu Young Jacob’ ($2.40 - $1.80) to lose double figures. The only
losing result was the favourite with the largest wagers on the race $1,000 at
$1.80 ‘Motu Young Jacob’ and two $1,000 wagers on the winner at $4.50. The
winner has cost punters plenty in the past so on that score we guess it was
payback time tonight.
Race
6: Winner - Cullen’s Impact $5.00 - $4.00
We were only losing on two runners in the race but
unfortunately one of them was the winner ’Cullens Impact’ but he was the better
of the two as the favourite ‘Red Zone’ was heavily backed over the final two
minutes. Largest wager on the race was $3,500 ‘Red Zone’ at $3.00. The first
wager on the race was $300 ‘Three J’s’ at $14 and she put up a good race to
finish third from a wide draw so she may be worth following at her next t
start.
Race
7: Winner - Exceptional Cullen $3.50 - $4.50
As soon as we opened the market on the race the money
came for ‘Dead Calm’ (3rd) which opened and closed at $4.00. The winner was a
losing result but all the money came for him late after we had pushed his odds
out.
Race
8: Winner - David Fagan $21 - $31
The favourite ‘All Tiger’ was heavily backed in
multi-wagers and we took a couple of $6,000 wagers on him at $1.20 but luckily
for one punter he didn’t follow-up on his last week’s $20,000 wager on him. The
winner was a good result and got the ‘book’ back on track for the night.
Outside the favourite it was hard to attract any decent sized wagers.
Race
9: Winner – Carlos $15 - $31
This looked a tough race for punters and the result
proved just that with the winner paying $31. Money came for a few runners with
‘The Go Forward” (3rd) leading the way. A winning result for the ‘book’ but
punters didn’t really get heavily involved.
Race
10: Winner – I Cee U $2.50 - $3.80
We opened the winner up short after her top run for
4th in debut and she did close as a good result for us. All the money came for
the tote favourite ‘Caesar Court’
(2nd) $5.00 - $3.00.
An up and down nightwith the ‘book’ finishing slightly ahead.
05 June CambridgeHarness Fixed Odds ‘Jewels’ Report
Race 1: 4 Year Old Mares
Winner – ‘Beaudine Bad Babe’ opening final field odds
$2.00 & closed $1.70 (tote $1.60)
Punters got off to a great start with the favourite
‘Beaudine Bad Babe’ overcoming a second line draw to win easily by two lengths.
We made a slight profit in singles on her but in multi-wagers it wasn’t
the result we wanted. The late money came
for ‘Crystal Star’ (7th) $6.00 - $5.50.
Race 2: 2 Year Old Trot
Winner – ‘Kylee Ree’ opening final field odds $2.60 & closed $2.20
(tote $2.30)
There was plenty of inspired support for the winner as
soon as we opened the 'final field' market on the race following her
impressive second placing at the recent Saturday Cambridge workouts. We opened her
at $26 on the 'futures' market and we took a $500 wager on her at those
odds so well done to the customer that got on. Our ‘book’ favourite ‘Paramount
Geegee’ broke at the start and after that it was all one way traffic home for
the tote favourite. We only had a small liability on the winner on the ‘final
field’ book but she was by far the best backed
in multi-wagers.
Race 3: 2 Year Old Fillies
Winner – ‘Bettor Cover Lover‘ opening
final field odds $2.00 & closed $2.00 (tote $2.20)
Brent Mangos drove the $2.00
shot as she was the best runner in the race and
she delivered with a comprehensive win. Surprisingly the early money came for
‘Collectable’ (8th) as the mail was she
didn’t trial that well on the previous
Saturday, she opened at $6.00 on the 'final' field
book & closed at $4.80.
‘Navarra Franco’ (5th) was a bad result in the ‘futures’
book and we did take some late 'final field' money
on her at $21. The winnerwas a good result in the ‘single’
book but the multi money is starting to avalanche. With the
first three races going to the favorites ‘sliced bread’ is in serious
trouble to ‘winning favorites at Cambridge Raceway’.
Race 4: 3 Year Old Trot
Winner – ‘Vulcan’ opening final field odds $7.00 &
closed at $16 (tote $15.10)
The favourite ‘Miami H’ opened at $2.00 on the ‘final
field’ book (closed $1.80 tote), he was
heavily backed in multi-wagers but broke after 200m and basically got us on the right side of the ledger. We did take a
$1,000 wager on the winner on the ‘futures’ book at $31so
he did open on the ‘final field’ market short until we could reduce the overall
liability on him but that was one result we didn’t mind paying out on.
Race 5: 3 Year Old Fillies
Winner ‘De Lovely’ opening final field odds $1.50
& closed $1.50 (tote $1.50)
A lot of people thought the $1.50 opening ‘fixed
odds’ on the winner was too short but the only thing too short was the
‘fixed odds’ interest we could attractfor
her rivals. Drew one, lead & won in a NZ
record time for three year old fillies. The
favorite juggernaut at Cambridge is back on-track and a few customers have walked past the 'final field'
tent reminding us about the money we lost at the ‘Jewels’ Cambridge 2008.
There's more chance of us forgetting our names than that result and if we had a
dollar for every time we have been reminded over the past two years we could
have squared the ledger for that day.
Race 6: 4 Year Old Trot
Winner: ‘I Can Doosit” opening final field odds
$2.00 & closed $2.60 (tote $2.80)
We opened the winner at $2.00 and he paid $2.80 the tote
which surprised us as this was one runner we thought was one of the best bets
on the day so we were happy to see him virtually unwanted in single trading. We gave good over’s on 'Dr Hook' ($5.00) &
that’s where all the late money went. ‘Ima
Gold Digger’ a $3.00 closing second favourite was a bad liability for us on the
‘futures’ book as he opened at $26 and was well backed at those odds.
Race 7: 2 Year Old Colts & Geldings
Winner: ‘Major Mark’ opening final field odds $1.60 & closed $2.00
(tote $1.90)
It’s not often that we cheer home a Purdon & Payne
trained favourite but with a $1,000 wager taken on ‘The Muskeg Express’ at $41(closed $3.00
tote) on the ‘futures’ book along with heavy multi action we got the result we
wanted. Outside the first two favourites it was hard to lay the rest of
the field. It’s going to be a long time before you see double figure odds again on ‘The Muskeg Express’ after his last two placings.
Race 8: 4 Year Old Entires & Geldings
Winner: ‘Tintin In America’ opening final field odds
$2.30 & closed $2.00
(tote $2.10)
Many thought this favourite wouldn’t be winning from
his second line draw but he got a great run through and a lap from home this
race was over. The big mover was ‘Sleepy Tripp’ (5th)
which opened at $4.50 and closed at $4.20. No damage in single wagering on the winner
but he made it seven from eight favourites to salute
and the tip is buy shares in the company that produces 'panadol' as we just
purchased our third box for the day.
Race 9: 3 Year Old Colts & Geldings
Winner: ‘Sir Lincoln” opening final field odds $10 & closed $26
(tote $18)
Up to this point in time we were
ahead of punters but we were losing close to
six figures on the favourite 'Russley Rascal' 'and it
was going to be close to a break even day if
he won which given the results we thought was great
effort but then we remembered the ‘futures’
book’ on the race. After checking the position Stephen
King received word he had some serious new competition down-under. We didn't bother looking to see where all the damage had
come from on the 'futures' book on the favourite as we were feeling a bit flat
with this updated position and we were going to recommend that any future
'Jewels' at Cambridge may as well be held on the 25th December.
We opened the favourite ‘Russley Rascal’ at $1.80 and
took a couple of decent wagers at that price. After 48 hours it was obvious
this was going to be the best backed multi runner we have ever seen. When we had his odds at $1.30 we had a few calls
that he was at ridiculous odds and they were not wrong as he closed at $1.20.We were resigned to paying out on the shortest
closing priced favourite on the day but he had a tough duel with Gomeo Romeo (12th) and the race was set-up for the winner ‘Sir
Lincoln’ who had enjoyed a great trip. A huge run
to finish third by the favourite and he was no doubt on the float trip home by
the time our heart ratesreturned to their normal levels.
So overall a good 'Jewels'
raceday for the ‘book’ but we still need a couple more results like today’s at future Cambridge
‘Jewels’ to recoup our 2008 effort (see guys we
don't forget).
It’s still scary to think what the last race would
have been for the 'final field' & 'future' books if ‘Miami H’ and ‘Russley Rascal’ had of won to
make it 9/9 winning favourites but then again this report would have been very
simple to write with only two words required ‘The End'!
