Sunday Specials posted below

I don’t normally preview South Island races but there are some nice fields there, so the preview is below. Plus two from the greyhounds that look well boxed to win, plus the $5 Bonus quaddie bet.

If you like Hong Kong racing then Hutchi’s Honkers is needed as Hutchi gives an in depth preview of every race plus his recommended bet plays for the night. You learn so much from HK racing as well, especially with horse behaviour. My suggestion is to Mysky the races and go back and see if there were any clues given why a favourite got beaten or a horse won with their behaviour. Jenny Chapman is very good at giving specific reasons and you will learn a lot from her.

Race 1

Confidence: 2/5

1.Irish Excuse  has the best 7 FR ( Formpro Rating) figures in the last 12 months in this field. He won here in April last year and gets his chance after an improver’s third last start and with 3kgs off his back he rates 2.5 lengths ahead of this field after weight adjustments. RP $2.60, $3 FF

Danger:

2.Secret Power is in strong form. Won well off a decent tempo over 1400m last start. Needs a decent tempo to beat Irish and may not get that with the small field. Gets 6kgs on Irish, so the harder they go, the more that will come into play.

Race 2

Confidence: 2/5

3.Get Rhythm was restrained to settle in behind last start and if he had got clear running from the turn, would have been right in it. Likely to be ridden cold again and with luck this time could do it. RP $5, $7.50FF

Dangers:

1.Yes You Did  ran a very good third last start when midfield 3w in the opn off an even tempo and galloped home strongly until he hit the uphill last 100 metres and battled. He wanted to lay in so the wide draw is no help.

8.Verify  has had plenty of chances and drawn wide. Needs luck.

7.Ivan Kane was ridden out to win his trial while the other two weren’t, so made to look good, so $3.40 Ff is too short.

Race 3

Confidence: 1/5

8.Miss Catherine ran third to the Railway winner, Volpe Veloce in October 2016, but didn’t go on with it. Southern debut had no luck and from the good draw on a slow track, she can upset these. Has the best FR ( Formpro Rating) as well. She has drifted in early markets so watch how that trend goes. RP $7, $11 Ff

Dangers:

5.Opio Rose two good efforts lately. Drawn out but without using too much petrol to get on the pace can win.

4.Rock Master showed a bit of ticker to fight back after a hard trip fresh up.

7.Where Angels Walk freshened up after some handy runs.

 Race 4

Confidence: 1/5 in an open race

1.Promising  in career best form now and gets 2kgs off from a good draw.

 Dangers:

6.Lily Grecia will on the pace and if they don’t go hard, can win.

3.Little Miss won well here three starts back and drawn well.

4.Eckse  impressive debut winner in faster time than the R65 race.Given time to mature.

2.All Dressed Up  with the right run can do it.

Race 5

Confidence: 1/5 in an open race

3.Heza Duke made his Southern debut last start and battled well for fourth and will have improved with that being his first run for 57 days. Good rider with 3kgs off. RP $5

 Dangers:

2.Coatncollar game third last start after doing extra.

7.Tatum ran on well after getting a cosy trip. Had a few goes.

1.Itemize  drawn to get all favours and this may be the day!

Race 6

Confidence: 2/5

10.Franconi two starts back was held up when finishing well. Then last start had to switch to the slower inner on the turn and found the line well for 4th. He has two of the best three FRs in this field on a wet track and gets in on 53kgs. He will get back but there looks to be an even tempo here, so third up and fitter, he looks a good ew chance. RP $4.50, $7

 Dangers:

6.Sir Ed led and was run down for a solid third in an R85 race last start. Gets in on 54.5kgs.

2.The Young Pretenda upset last start but was drawing away late and is fitter.

13.All The Drama beat home Franconi last start but had the better ground. Gets 2kgs off.

Race 7

Confidence: 3/5

3.Gold’nGuru  had to duck down to the slower inner ground last start but charged home for a close third and was in front soon after the post. Won third up last campaign and strikes a weak field to repeat that pattern. RP $2.20, $2.40 FF

 Dangers:

5.Madam De Soir with a freshener and her liking for the track ( both wins here over 2100m on a Good and Slow track) she looks the only danger.

Race 8

Confidence: 1/5 go wide in the quaddie

2.Orepuki Lad  would have won if he had run straight on debut. Racha will know him better now and will likely keep his hands on the reins longer. RP $4.50

 Dangers:

1.Wentworth had the blinkers come off last start and he motored home much better.

4.Our Boy Baz was a bit fresh and keen last start and was caught 3w in the open. Better than that.

8.Iwo Jima  two good fourths and drawn well.

10.Pyjamarama held her breath last start and the nasal strip goes on. Would like to have seen a tongue tie go on but may not like it. Ran a good 3rd to smart filly Courte Zarindi last campaign.

11.Miss Tanira  good run on debut but faded fresh up. Blinkers go on.

Race 9

Confidence: 2/5

14.Lizzie Bordon two starts back ran a top third when 3w in the open on the pace and stuck well for third at Wingatui, which is uphill late. Then backed up 5 days later and didn’t finish it off in the slower inner ground. She won here this time last year over 1600m on a slow track. Drawn well and is a nice ew chance. RP $5, $11

Dangers:

8.Vino Tinto game second last start and if he gets a better run than Road To Redemption, which is likely, could beat him.

4.Finbaar needs 1600m now and the blinkers go on, which he has been looking for.

2.Road To Redemption close third second up and fitter now. Meets Vino Tinto better off in weights and has best FR ( Formpro Rating). RP $4

Manukau Greyhounds

Race 1

Confidence: 3/5

1.Jetsun Bear  was steadily closing on favourite Kuridrani on Thursday from box 1. If Kuridrani misses it today, he can win this. RP $3, $4 FF ( Could save on 5.Kuridrani )

Race 5

Confidence: 4/5

9.Invasion jumped cleanly on Thursday and when he saw that lure nothing was going to stop him and he bolted away to win in the fastest time oif any of these in the last 30 days. He has drawn box 7 here and the 8 and 7 dog run true and are slower away, so with that same beginning he wins. RP $1.60, $2.50 Ff

Bonus quaddie of $5k on race 2

Recommended quaddie:

$10 for 16%

Leg 1: 1. Mad Harry
2. Belcroft Banker
3. Fantastic Lucy
7. Formation
8. Timma Turtle
Leg 2: 1. Jinja Bailey
3. Talkabout Izzy
6. Jinja Might
Leg 3: 1. Ken Wilde
2. Katcha Ninja
3. Red Dee
5. Reality Check
Leg 4: 9. Invasion
