Matamata preview

The rail is out 8 metres from 4m from the may 2 meeting. The track has come back to a Heavy 10 and a fine day is forecast.

If you are in the Quaddie syndicate we are ticking along and getting our fair share but just not getting the double figure winners. Impending was our anchor at Doomben and he won well, but the third and fourth legs were taken out by $4 winners. The balance is $5205 and details can be seen here. I was going to end the syndicate after last Saturday but as we still have a good bank, I’m going to press on during June with the same approach. There is a Terminating $50k Pick 6 at Cambridge Trots and $20k Bonus quaddies, so I may have a go at one of those plus another gallops quaddie.

Impending had to be good to win on Saturday as the two up front tried to set it up for him to get beaten, but it didn’t work. He just had too much of a powerful finish and is a very athletic horse. He and Live And Free were the two main bets and it was no coincidence that they were both in Australia. With so much information available for racing there now ( The new Punters Intel is just terrific for finding future winners ) you just need the time to sort out the best bets and the bonus is they aren’t racing on tracks that take 1.17 to run 1200m!

So watch out for two or three more well placed bets there for this Saturday.

FR = Formpro Ratings which I refer to often.

Bet of the Day Race 4 1.Mediterranean Star $4 FF

Value bet of the Day Race 7 9.Imblaze $6 FF

Race 1

Confidence: 2/5

8.Kanumiss fought on well second up over 2200m on a heavy 11 which is pretty good at its second run back. So you would think she would imnprove even further, especially being from the Baker/Forsman stable. RP $2.40, $2.00 FF

3.Magic Cannon has the best Fr sod a heavy track and fitter after two runs back with 1.5kgs off.

Race 2

The speed map shows

Confidence: 2/5

2.Veleveteen 1st $2.40 ran a strong second here last start and third was Lady Kartel who won well next up. Fitter and the one to beat. RP $4

8.Aftershock had the tongue tie on in her trail and ran well for fourth although she hung round the turn. Gets 3kgs off and left handed will suit better. Nice action for a wet track.

Race 3

The speed map shows Valante can lead with not a lot of pressure despite the big field.

Confidence: 2/5

3.Valante 1st $6  has the best FR on a heavy 11 track when a close second at Ellerslie on a 1.50 for 1600m track. Hasn’t won for a while. Drops back to 1600m which he is best suited to and looks the best ew chance in a big field. RP $4, $8.50 Ff

9.Leica Warrior fought on well for second last start. Third up now and with a good run from the wide draw, is in this.

1.Vittachi  ran on well last start here and with definite improvement from the Baker/Forsman stable third up, has to be right in this.

13.Keen to Keeper has the second best FR on a heavy track and has won second up.

Race 4

The speed map shows Mediterranean Star can lead or sit on it with less pressure than last time.

Confidence: 3/5

1.Mediterranaen Star was taken on last start and did very well to hold second behind the winner who had the drop on him. The horse that set that pace won next up ridden better. He maps to get a softer time up front this time and be hard to beat. RP $3.40, $4.50 FF

2.Campobasso good second on debut and likely to sit outside the leader and be in the right pace.

4.Country Bumpkin has the best two FRs on a heavy track. Won his trial well too.

Race 5

The speed map shows

1.Fistral Beach ran fourth in the same race and ran a strong second on debut to a smart horse.

12.Robusto closed off strongly wide for a close fourth in her trial. Ready to fire on debut.

Race 6

The speed map shows

Confidence: 2/5

6.Ticket To Ride 1st $5.30 had the blinkers on last start and did well for second. Peaking fourth up with 3kgs off this time is a smart move. RP $4.50, $5 FF

3.Savette got all favours to win last start but looks the goods.

13.Indian Maid 2nd $3.70 qu $28  ran a game second in this race last year. Back in class after being caught in the slower inner last start.

9.Dainty Rose has the top two FRs on a heavy track and drawn to get a good run id the inside is ok.

Race 7

The speed map shows

Confidence: 3/5

9.Imblaze 1st $3.20 won really well here last start on a slow track. She has been freshened up and gets 4kgs off on a track she has won twice on and run second from only three starts here. She handles a heavy 11 track well and with 52.5kgs, is the one to beat. RP $3.20,$6.50 Ff

3.Soroc likely to be near Imblaze on the pace but gives her 7.5kgs which will be too much to overcome.

6.Ricky Baker will be improved and will get every chance.

Race 8

The speed map shows

Confidence: 1/5

9.Zenvo fitter after two runs back. Ridden up front last start which didn’t work. Expect her to be ridden in behind and be harder to beat third up with 4kgs off and the tongue tie going on. RP $4

8.Sheeznoteasy improved to run a closer second last start.

11.Tavitup  may appreciate the heavy track and fitter.

7.Showcoblu  ready to fire on debt after three good trials.

Race 9

Confidence: 1/5

13.Waiwetu Lass  won her trial leading all the way and is ready to win on debut. RP $4

12.She’s Mine looked good winning her trial sweeping home down the outer. Looks better suited this way round too.

10.Bangles  fair third on debut and will be improved by that.

4.Mallory Square  1st $8 in her trial win was handy and drove hard late to win with a bit in hand. Wet track ok.
