Saturday preview
Update 8 a.m. Saturday,
It is a day where I have found it hard to nail any strong confidence bets. Sarabande, Repo Bay and Princess El Jay are all nice eachway bets and the two jumps selections at Trentham should be hard to beat. ( No flat Trentham selections because of the recent invisible jumpouts at Levin )
I’ll post an update by 1 p.m. with any other bets or bets in Australia. I’ll have a quaddie here or in Australia which I will post by 2 p.m. for Te Rapa or 4 p.m. for Australia
Bet of the Day Trentham Race 3 8.It’s A Wonder $3.00 FF
Value bet of the Day Te Rapa Race 10 10.Sarabande $8.80
Big Value bet of the day Te Rapa Race 8 11.Princess El Jay $15
Sneaky of the Day Te Rapa Race 5 9.Repo Bay $5.80 FF
Heads Up Post below. The Money Shot and I preview the two big jumps races at Trentham, a good bet for the First All Blacks test, the Whip rule, plus more. We forgot to put in the question for the Free months sub to Formpro, There were 14 entries and no one had Santa Ana Lane so text or email your Stradbroke selection by 4 p.m. tomorrow. If more than two select it, I’ll give the ones who do get the winner , a knockout in the Derby. Just email or text me your Stradbroke selection at this stage. 027 352 6402 or formpro@formpro.co.nz
Below is an early preview of Saturday. With around 130 horses that went around at the recent invisible jumpouts at Levin, how can anyone punt with confidence there not knowing which ones did and not being able to see it. e.g. in race 5 Tutta La Classe is the $180 favourite but two horses in it won at the jumpouts 1 and 2. So you don’t know how good those wins were or weren’t and if they have the action to handle a testing holding heavy track. Not having video coverage just stifles betting. I’ll preview Races 3 and 6 there but pass on the rest and do the Ozzie form instead.
Early recommended bets are: ( There may be some Australian bets with 3/5 confidence but I want to see how the tracks are playing before posting them later Saturday afternoon. )
Trentham Race 3 8.It’s A Wonder $3.20 FF
Trentham Race 6 4.Just Ishi $6 FF
Te Rapa Race 10 10.Sarabande $8.80 Ff
Te Rapa Race 8 11.Princess El Jay $14 and $3.60 FF
The Money Shot’s best sports bet is France with a 12.5 point start for the first half at $1.82
Te Rapa
Race 1
Confidence: 2/5
2.Reliable Lad stuck on very gamely last start after having the toughest run 3 wide in the open and just went down late. Has been given time to get over that and drawn to get a good run on the pace. RP $3.50, $3.70 Ff
Dangers:
10.Snitz Of Time has had her chances and $2.20 is too short from a wide draw.
3.Resurgence has the blinkers going on and is one of the best bred horses racing today.
Race 2
Confidence: 1/5
1.Stealth ran a solid second last start and fitter for this. The winner has won again since. Gets 4kgs off this time and looks the one. RP $4.80
Dangers:
7.Top Actress drawn wide and will need all favours to win.
2.Acre did well last start wide and kept finding. With a better run here, could upset.
Race 3
Confidence: 2/5
5.Peaceful will be ready to go after her trip to Riccarton. Should get a good run near the pace depending on how she jumps and how the track is playing. RP $3.20, $2.60 FF
Dangers:
1.Ole Ole drawn to get all favours maybe leading and 1400m suits.
6.Platinum Rapper will be right in this, especially if the go harder than expected.. Won well last start and drawn well.
Race 4
Confidence: 2/5
2.Comeback won well two back and battled ok in the bog last start. Drawn to get all favours and the one to beat. RP $3.50, $3.40 FF
Dangers:
3.Major Domo won easily on a heavy track last start and looks the main danger.
11.Angeline nice trial and fitter now.
Race 5
Confidence: 2/5
9.Repo Bay in her last two campaigns has won fourth up and looks set to repeat that pattern. She will relish the extra ground now and drawn to get a winning run with top rider Samantha Collett up where she maps to get a good run on a moderate tempo.RP $4. $5.80
Dangers:
1.Bojangles looks well drawn to get a good run and be in this.
8.Replica racing well but will likely get back off a moderate tempo.
Race 6
Confidence: 1/5 in a tough race.
1.Cinematic back in class and back to her best distance, with 4kgs off, looks the best chance. RP $5, $4.50 FF
Dangers:
2.Wooden Edge is ready to go fresh but may just need one for Tauranga in two weeks time.
9.Justacanta if they go hard enough, could do it again.
Race 7
Confidence: 2/5 in a tricky race
2.Southern Icon won easily here last start over 1400m which is his ideal distance now. Very fit and despite giving weight to handy horses, can lead all the way again RP $4.00, $4.20 FF
Dangers:
5.Deals In Heals was beaten by stablemate Tomelilla last start and she won well at Wanganui next up. Freshened up and may just need the run after 28 days after a slog in the bog as there is a $50k WFA race in two weeks time at Tauranga that she will no doubt be targeting.
7.Mighty Solomon closed hard late last start here and meets Southern Icon better off in the weights by 1.5kgs and should land closer in the running.
Race 8
Confidence: 2/5
11.Princess El Jay won well here last start over 2400m and just keeps on improving. Did nothing in a recent trial but was never pushed. She is also nicely weighted to swoop into it with the likely good tempo up front. RP $7, $14 after opening at $17 Ff which is a good sign she is ready.
Dangers:
10.Zanyetta weighted nicely to get back and swoop into it in a race that should set up for her with a few on pace runners setting up a decent tempo.
8.Mangaroa Flo Jo gets in with the right weight and the pace should suit here. Last start she ran on ok after being run off her feet and the form out of that race has been ok with Doiknowyou ( (7th) winning next up.
4.Rodrico is a good horse that raced well in HK. Won well last start and btter track will suit.
3.Big Mike got all favours here last start and won well. Won’t get that soft time again so the $2.0 is just too short.
Race 9
Confidence: 2/5
5.Diehard is a nice middle distance runner and ready to strike now on a better surface third up from the Baker/ Forsman stable. RP $4.00, $4.50 Ff
Dangers:
4.In A Minute drops in class and goes well 2nd up. Gets 2kgs off and drawn to get all favours.
3.Suliman fitter third up now and wide draw could be a plus.
2.Epae Road rated well here two back and too boggy last start. Gets 2kgs off.
Race 10
Confidence: 3/5
10.Sarabande put in some top closing sectionals here two back on a track that was too good for her two starts back. Then at Awapuni last start, it was too boggy for her. This time she draws well on the right track conditions and is very well placed with 2kgs off. She won an R75 race here with Jasmine on third up last October here on a Dead 6 running 1.39.6 which is about what this should be running at. There looks to be at least an even tempo and she looks well placed to win this. RP $3.80, $8.80 Ff and $2.90 FF
Dangers:
7.Viktor Vegas ready to go close now but looks to be a good speed here and from the wide draw giving weight to Sarabande, he may not be able to keep her out.
1.Grand Rio will like the better surface and fitter now.
Trentham
Race 3
Confidence: 2/5
8.It’s A Wonder would have won last start if he jumped the 2nd last better. Will relish the heavy track and gets in on a winning weight. RP $2.80, $3.20 FF
Dangers:
5.El Corby beat It’s A Wonder over hurdles at Te Aroha last year and is ready to go first up over hurdles.
1.The Shackler jumped better than It’s A Wonder last start and that was the difference, but he’s giving him 2.5kgs more now which he is going to feel on this heavy holding track.
9.Game Percy strong second over hurdles two back and fitter after flat run from the Myers stable.
Race 6
Confidence: 2/5
4.Just Ishi will be peaking for this nicely after a strong 2nd last start on a better surface over hurdles to the smart No Change. He won at this meeting last year on a very heavy track and Gail temperton is a very good trainer. RP $4.00, $6.20 Ff
Dangers:
1.Sea King won here in June last year with 70kgs and went on to win in Australia. He’ll be ready for this steeples race.
2.Wise Men Say would be harder to beat if there was a big hill along the way, so he can power over them late. $3.00 FF is too short without one.
6.Zardetto peaking nicely for this now.
