There are three quality bets today. Mr Universe looks very hard to beat and Felaar looks very well placed to win on 53kgs.

Frankely Awesome looks set to win the Oaks at a very good value price. Apologies – No update today.

Alby, who won the Heads Up  $5,000 multi bet, asked if I could put it on tomorrow as he is working today, so I’ll do that.

Race 1

The speed map shows Lady Lira likely to lead but many looking to be on the pace ensuring an even tempo suiting all runners.

3.Mr Universe 1st $2.80 last start put in a top run when allowed to settle off the pace midfield inner by Bosson. On the turn he got out but was about 3 lengths off the winner Cavallo Veloce. But once balanced up and the winner stopped running out under the whip, he really knuckled down and found the line hard. His last 600m was the fastest of the day in the best speed rated race all day. So the 1300m suits now and he maps to land about 7th outer and from there get his chance to power over these. A Dead to Slow track will be ok. RP $2.00, $3.30 FF 5 units at $3.30 for the value Staking plan returned 16.5 units

Dangers:

1.Castani rated strongly last start. 60kgs no help but looks the main danger.

Race 2

Confidence: 2/5

7.Kali 1st $3.50looked very impressive winning her second trial when bouncing well, snagging but travelled very well on the turn and bolted in. Drawn out but with her tactical speed Leith Innes will be able to get her in a winning position and be the one to beat. RP $3.00, $3.30 FF

Dangers:

6.Puysegur  won her debut well with a well timed finish. Looks ready to fire after a good trial win.

Race 3

Confidence: 1/5

3.Shared Secrets  1st $3.50  was a bit unlucky last start when shuffled back and ran on late in a stronger field.

8.Vainglory   will find this easier and with a soft run likely, can sneak into it.

2.Macklemore  has won his lat two strongly and is very fit.

Race 4

Confidence: 2/5

5.What A Smasher looked a definite improver out of her Awapuni run in a strong field. She gets 2kgs off this time and from the wide draw may snag as she has really found the line fast when ridden cold. There looks to be a good pace up front, so can upset. RP $6, $12 FF

Dangers:

10.Walkin By  won well last start.Drawn to get all favours.

3.Icebomb with a good run can pounce late.

 

Race 5

The Speed map shows plenty of early speed suiting an off pace runner with the likely good tempo.

8.Sasso Corbaro  closed off in the fastest last 600m and 200m all day at Trentham. Big win fresh up on a Slow track and the blinkers go on this time. Good tempo will suit and if they are winning wider and off the pace by this time of day, she can win again. RP $4.50, $7 FF

Dangers:

12.Cavallo Veloce won strongly last start in the best speed rating all day with 58.5kgs. This is a jump up in class but he maps to get a good run off the pace and be a chance to get over these with a light weight.

4.Princess Keruru 1st $4.40 is a good mare who has won and almost won in her last two runs. Drawn to do more here and will need a good ride to win.

9.Rikki Tikki Tavi  drawn to get a good run and be a chance.

Race 6

10.La Mia Stella 1st $5.30  close second last start and drawn to get all favours this time. RP $4

Dangers:

6.Terra Sancta  fresh up where there looks to be plenty of pace, will suit her style.

11.Langkawi drawn to get a good trip and goes well here.’

3.Griffin  with a good ride has to be in it.

Race 7

The speed map shows Royal Ruby likely to lead with Tiptronic and Balham likely to sit on her backside. Ruby tends to set even sectionals so it should suit all runners.

7.Felaar 1st $2.90  in the Formpro Ratings was giving 6 kgs to Artiste the winner, and rated a career best 112, which actually puts him on top here after weight adjustments. Plus, if you factor in that he will have improved with that run after a 27 day break and trainer Stephen Marsh said before his previous start he couldn’t wait to get the blinkers on him, you could expect him to improve at least 2 lengths on that last run which puts him 3 lengths clear of these after every runners weight carried is taken into account. There looks to be enough tempo in it for him to settle midfield or worse and get his chance to get out and get over these with just 53kgs on his back. Leith Innes rarely rides at this weight so he must think he is worth it.RP $2.50, Currently $3.30 FF 2.6 units at $3.30 returned 8.6 units on the value staking plan.

Dangers:

4.Igraine  has had a couple of runs back and battled on ok for fourth behind Concert Hall last start. Steps up to a more suitable distance and if it gets to a slow track, that would help her chances.

2.Tiptronic will go forward and has placed in stronger fields.

3.Jacksstar  won well last start with 55kgs, the minimum. This time 57.5kgs and 4.5kgs above the minimum. Place chance.

Race 8

Confidence: 2/5

1.Whatsup won well in a very good speed rating last start. Gets 2kgs off again in the same grade and with a good run can repeat. RP $6

Dangers:

10.Lincoln Fury  big finish last start and with a better run can go close.

4.The Helix  with a good ride should be in it.

9.Harbourside  broke through for a good win last start. Drawn to get a good run.

Sydney

Race 6

Confidence: 3/5

3.Frankly Awesome 3rd looks well placed here to win this. She closed off hard behind Very Elleegant last start here after coming from last. Her closing 200m was a length faster than Very Elleegants. She has drawn well and maps to settle 4 back inner and do nothing while very Elleegant has drawn out and is likely to over race out in the open and be vulnerable once they get over the rise in the straight. So she is very good value to beat the favourite. RP $3.80, $6 FF 1.6 units bet for a loss of 1.6 units.
