Early Saturday preview and my answer to a complaint

Good morning,

So it looks like we will be upsetting the Poms on Sunday night! I’m picking there will be a few DCMs  ( Don’t Come Mondays ) called in Monday morning!

Timaru have a Dead 4 track which, at this time of year, just won’t suit most horses, so it may throw up some good head to heads to multi into well placed runners tomorrow. If there are, I’ll post those by noon today with updates by noon, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., then again by 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Update: Three Quality bets posted here

For those of you in the Pick 6 syndicate, we have $2,000 in the kitty. I won’t decide if I will bet into it until I have done all the form for it and seen how the tracks are playing.

I had an email from a subscriber complaining about the lack of selections, especially during the week. I understand where he is coming from as some just want my opinion about runners and an assessment of my confidence in the race. What is very important to me is trying to educate subscribers to get control of their betting and cut out those losing bets in between the winners. And if I select runners for every race, especially during the week on wet biased tracks, you will be tempted to have a bet. Long term I know 100% from personal experience, that you will just whittle at your bank until it disappears. You are far better off spending your time and money on better tracks and races where you have plenty of form to work with. So that is where I am coming from. Even on a Saturday, I know most races and markets are favouring the bookies, and I’d rather pass on those races, but I understand some want to take quaddies, Pick 6s etc, and compare their opinion to mine, and it is their day of entertainment.

I feel that my job is to navigate our way through the wet track months with as little damage as possible. The Quality bets have ensured we have made a decent profit, and I want to keep it that way. The better quality horses will start appearing in trials very soon, here and in Australia, which is what I am really looking forward to. So let’s just tread carefully for just a few more weeks, then we can punt with a lot more confidence on the right horses in the right races, at value prices.
