Wednesday selections posted at noon and track readings

With two very good meetings at Sydney and Caulfield, I’ve concentrated my time on those two meeting. So I’ll post selections for there by noon once scratchings are known.  It was a shame Te Aroha was called off as there were a lot of horses ready to go but extra races are being put on over the next week or so to give them a run.

I’m biding my time till we get some decent surfaces to race on in New Zealand. Hastings has had some good form come out of it and I’m sure Hawera will have too. I don’t know how they came up with a Dead 5 for there on Saturday. The times they were running said it was a Slow 7. Matamata ran similar 1600m times and was rated a Heavy 10! Either the starting gates are in the wrong positions or the reading was simply incorrect. The best times run there are under 1.10 for 1200 and under 1.22.6 for 1400m so they can run good times on good tracks. I’m surprised it wasn’t questioned by stewards as punters here and overseas rely on those readings to base their betting on. When it is obviously so wrong, it needs to be questioned and an explanation given, otherwise, punters who want to punt seriously on New Zealand tracks won’t bet on early races until they can see for themselves.
