With the bath bookies took on Kinane, where the early birds got $51 ( In Oz) according to Ron Dufficy earlier in the week and $21s was freely available afterwards, a couple of subscribers asked how I used the sectionals to assess his ability. More and more I am using the last 200 metre sectionals of horses to assess that. Kinane ran his last 200m in 11.46 ( The official last 600m of 35.03 was well out ) and after checking others on the day, nothing came near that. Yes, you have to take into account how hard they went before they reach that 200m mark, but the way he raced, being ridden up well out then responding like he did in the last 200 metres, said he was screaming out for a middle distance, as his very good breeding suggested. So the way he exploded over the last 200m yesterday, was no real surprise and we still got around $7s . And given Quick Thinker was just never a $2 chance back on a better surface with his action, really made it a race to find the value bets. I’ll be posting a full analysis of that meeting by tomorrow night so will see how his sectionals and time compare to other races on the day, plus other horses to follow or lay next up.
Today I’ll be working on Wagga Wagga which has a Good 4 track and some well exposed form to work with. That will be posted by 2 p.m.
