Kiwi Ida, Tavi Mac and Rocket Spade are all 3/5 confidence bets and look the best placed runners so far tomorrow. I’ll post an update by 6 p.m. today.

Update 8.15 a.m. Our Track Walker for Matamata said the inside is likely to be the place to be for the first few races so I’ll look for on pace runners.

Race 1

Confidence: 2/5

5.Claiborne  is likely to land 2nd outer with Opie up and fought very well for 2nd last start. Nice horse and has that will to win and won here over this distance in August and a better track suits.  RP $4, $5 FF

12.Yamuna  had no chance last start with the wide run she got. Back left handed, ridden quieter, she can swamp these with the light weight. RP $6, $10 FF

13.Siracusa  bolted in here last start in an easier R65 field. Drawn out and will need a good ride but still on the up and has the breeding to win more races.

Race 2

Confidence: 3/5

4.Rocket Spade looked very impressive on the eye winning here on debut and his closing sectionals back that up with the fastest L600 34.67 and L400 22.66 all day and it was off a faster first 400m than the harder R65 race. Against his own age group, with Opie up, he does look the best of them. Should land in the 1×1 and be very hard to beat.RP $2.80

Race 3

Confidence: 2/5

13.Extortion  on debut may have pushed the winner if he didn’t want to run in under the right hand whip. The 1400m will suit and hopefully Sam has practiced his left hand whip action. Nice galloper who has the early pace to land near the pace. RP $3

Race 4

Confidence: 3/5

1.Brando  looked good winning his trial and is a nice looking galloper. has been training very well and Opie will give him every chance. RP $1.70, $1.50 FF

Race 5 Second leg of the $50k Guaranteed Turbo quaddie

The speed map shows plenty of early speed here so could set up for a closer.

1.Summer Passage  is a group 1 winning horse who went to Hong Kong and has come back here. The way he trialed up showed he was ready to win fresh up. Drawn to get a quiet run midfield and come with a hard late run. RP $6, $10

15.High Achiever  looked good winning at Taupo and on his home track has to be in this.

6.Familia  just beaten fresh up and goes well 2nd up. Drawn ideally.

8.Top Brass   ran an improver’s race fresh up and should get a good run with Opie up. 1200m suits better.

4.Woodcote Lass  is ready to fire up fresh after a good trial. Has won fresh up and likely to snag and charge late with 3kgs off.

17.Manrico  is the upsetter. Top win two starts back and can be forgiven right handed last start.

Race 6 Fourth leg of Turbo quaddie

10.Aromatic  nice mare who is ready to win fresh up. Drawn ideally with Danielle up.

4.Pacific Master was beaten by a nice horse last start. Gets 2kgs off this time and can win. RP $4

2.Fleurgundy  two good seconds. better ridden a bit quieter so hopefully he will be ridden that way.

1.Heart Of The Ocean  is a good mare and after two good trials is ready to win fresh with Opie up.

Race 7

The speed map shows a good tempo with five leaders looking to lead or be on it.

Confidence: 3/5

2.Tavi Mac is obviously going to find this easier than a strong Group 1 race at WFA at Hastings. Drawn to get a good run behind the leaders with Opie up and with his will to win and getting a good run, he has to be the one to beat. RP $2.80, $3.20 FF

8.Burgundy Belle won at Trentham last campaign over 1400m on an unsuitable Heavy track. Fresh up she was beaten by Marscapone who won easily next up. She gets in on a light weight with Danielle Johnson very likely to slot her in behind a decent tempo and be the main danger with the weight advantage.

16.Lavaglo Sam Weatherley  chose her over Our Alley Cat and she won easily here last start.

14.Our Alley Cat  tough win last start and 1400m suits now. Drawn to get all favours.

Race 8

The speed map shows a moderate to even tempo.

Confidence: 1/5

2.The Good Fight almost got up last start and will be even fitter for this. Drawn to get a good run. RP $4

7.Lincoln King 1st $19  is a big strong stayer who was doing his best on the line fresh up running the third fastest L200 metres over 1600m at Ellerslie. 2000m obviously suits much better and Danielle Johnson hops on.

1.Steven James racing in career best form and drawn to get all favours.

6.Finbaar  can run time over 2000m and from the good draw, should get all favours.

Race 9

Confidence: 2/5

5.Solid Contact  won his maiden very well then raced in a much stronger field at Te Rapa and was outclassed. Back in R65 grade with 3kgs off, looks better placed.

1.Coruba Jak  two good runs and 2000m suits now from a good draw.

6.Because  did well here last start. Drawn to get all favours with Danielle up.

7.Koolascuz  good run here two back and ran on late at Hastings in a stronger field. Fitter now and won his maiden here over 2000m on a slow track.

Races 3 and 4 are bookie benefits.

Race 5 First leg of the $50k quaddie.

Confidence: 2/5

6.Tellyawhat ran a game second last start and with the good tempo being set up in front, with 4kgs off on 50kgs, he is a chance to get over the front runners with a decent weight advantage. RP $5, $7 FF

5.Star Of Bombay  is ready to fire fresh after two good trials. Wider draw may not help.

1.Deerfield  drops out of the Group 1 Tarzino where he ran very well.

Race 6

Confidence: 2/5

11.Uareastar  looked good winning on debut and found 2100m too far second up. From a good draw, looks like he will get every chance. RP $4.50, $5

16.Tuigirl  looked very well at Hastings and didn’t get a lot of luck. 1600m suits better.

8.Cannoli  won well two back and found the harder field too tough last start. This is more like it with 3kgs off.

1.Thomas Aquinas  good run in a harder R74 field last start and gets 2kgs off.

Race 7

Confidence: 2/5

4.William Wallace sustained a big run for 4th last start. 2100m will suit now and will do nothing in the running. RP $5

6.Collinstreet  will be much better suited by the better track. Very fit and gets 3kgs off.

2.Gorbachev  fitter now and gets 3kgs off from a good draw.

9.Beauty Star  got back to winning form in a weaker field last start.gets in on a light weight and with the right run, should be in it.

Race 8

Confidence: 3/5

20.Justaskme Closed off strongly late down the outer running the fastest L200m of the race. 1400m looks ideal for this nice galloper next up. Start before fresh up: even a slow start and getting back in the slower ground, then having to angle wide and balance, could not stop this very good 5yo gelding from winning easily. He still ran the second fastest L600 39.66 all day and looks in for a profitable campaign. There looks to be an even speed with Father Lenihan and Seaaprince sharing the pace. He will get back behind midfield but the 1400m looks ideal now on a better surface. RP $4.50, $7 FF

15.Macushla two starts back after getting back to last she angled widest on the turn and came home in the fastest Last sectionals from the 600 , 400 and 200m. 1400m or further looks ideal now. Last start almost got up over 1200m. 1400m suits now.

Race 9

Confidence: 3/5

1.Kiwi Ida ran two very good races in stronger fields against the boys. She is going to find this easier and maps to slot in nicely around midfield and come with a well timed finish to win this third up and peaking. RP $2.70, $3.20 FF

5.Sinarahma nice improver’s run fresh up. Has been set for this and the blinkers go on at the right time. Maps to be 3 back inner which can be an awkward place to be here.

2.Yearn  just blew out late at Ruakaka fresh up and will be spot on for this. Tough mare.

6.Le Castille  good run for third fresh up. Should land on pace and be hard to beat.

Race 10

Confidence: 2/5

7.Gerda is a nice galloper ready to go fresh. Has the blinkers going on and should get a good run and with 3kgs off, should be the one to beat. RP $4, $4 FF

12.Zola Express  impressed on debut and looks a progressive type.

3.The Rippa when right is always hard to beat.
