Thursday preview below

Update 11.46 a.m. No further bets.

An early preview of a couple of races from Ellerslie will be posted by 6 p.m. today.

I’ve been through all the fields. They are quite even but there are three runners below that look good eachway chances. I’ll post an update by noon with any Head to Head or other bets. Watch out for David’s Greyhound selections as well. If you are on Twitter, make sure you  follow @formpro and have the notifications turned on, and you will get a notification when the selections are posted.

No Quality bets.

Now you know why I try and avoid South Island racing!

Race 1

The speed map shows Speights leading at a moderate tempo.

Confidence: 2/5

2.Speights  weak effort after getting a soft run in the trail  did very well last start when he drew out, was hunted out of the gates to get into the trail, settled well, but was held up across the top and lost about 4 lengths. He closed off strongly for a close third in better time than the R65 race. There is not a lot of pace in this race, and Corey Campbell is a smart rider, so I can see him hunting out again and dictating to these and being hard to run down 4th up and peaking from a good stable. RP $5, $7 and $2.25 FF

Race 4

The speed map shows four runners going forward.

Confidence: 2/5

5.Skaboom  caught 3 wide and battled ok after that- looked in need of the run anyway. ran a top 4th here in the Group 3 Breeders Stakes over 1600m in good time. She drew out, was hunted to 2nd outer, led 300m out and was still in front 50m to go then got swamped for 1 length 4th rating an FR 109 which would win any R74 race. After a decent spell she resumed at Wingatui, drew wide and got caught 3 wide at the back and improved wider coming to the turn in the open and just blew out. She strikes a weaker R74 field here and if she can get out and get handy has to be a decent eachway chance. RP $4.50, $6.50 and $2.10 FF

Race 5

The speed map shows a few looking to be on pace and Fionnuala leading with a  clean jump.

Confidence: 2/5

8.Fionnuala  missed after jumping well and getting every chance fresh up here ran a top 2nd when she missed the jump by a stride then had to use petrol to get handy and was posted 3 wide. Then she led on the turn, put a gap on them but ran about and was swamped by My Sova who won again two starts later in good time. Second up drew wide, got posted 3 wide and in the lead, the worst place you can be in a race and she still stuck gamely for 4th. This time, she has drawn closer to the rail and the key with her is the jump. If she can jump evenly, she has the natural speed to find the rail in front , which will help guide her. With a freshen up, and 2kgs off, she has to be a good eachway chance. RP $5, $7 and $2.50 FF
