Race 2
3.Captain Tom was relegated from 1st last start when he ran out. He looked better right handed in his trial win and debut run. But there is plenty of early speed around him and down on the rail which is likely to set it up for a closer and that may be the debut runner, 12.Side Hustle who looked good winning her trial coming from 4th inner along the rail with a stylish finish. With 2kgs off and from the right draw, she looks the best value bet in this at $12 and $3.40 FF.
Race 3
Confidence: 3/5
5.Brimstone when he ran second to Butterfield last start at Tauranga I thought that was a pretty good effort as Brimstone had him 200m out. Butterfield then ran a top second to Darci La Bella in fast time. So Brimstone did run into a pretty good horse. This time he has drawn to get the lead or Craig Grylls may look to trail as Anduin or Chandler is likely to look for it. That could put the main danger, Another Entree 3 back inner or it may be further back as he has been slow away at the trials and also evenly away. With Brimstone’s proven ability to at least win a maiden, he should be able to hold out the unraced Another Entree who does look like he will be better over more ground. RP $1.90, $1.80 FF
Race 4
Confidence: 3/5
2.Stringline ran a top race last start at Ruakaka when she was caught back and 3 wide in the open after trying to get in one off further ahead. She led after turning in and was run down late by Spine Tingle who has since won stylishly at New Plymouth again. The 4th and 9th horses have also won since. She looks a good galloper with a nice action so from the good draw and the Pearl Bonus being a good incentive to win, she should land in the first six and from there, does look very hard to beat. RP $2.70, $3.70 FF
Race 6
Confidence: 2/5
5.Radegast won strongly here over today’s distance of 1400m and last start here looked to be going well but was shut out of a gap when about to mount his run. Well bred 4yo gelding from Te Akau and the visor blinkers and Opie Bosson go on. From the good draw he should be able to land in the first 6 and get every chance this time. RP $3.40
Dangers:
6.Packing Joy has raced in the UK and Hong Kong for a win over 1800m. So this is likely to be a lot easier than he has faced. He looked ok in his trial when fighting well for second around some good horses like The Chosen One!
1.Son Of A Butcher has won on debut and won here over 1300m. Drawn to get all favours.
4.Mister Mosey is a nice horse who ran a very good third fresh up last campaign. Not a strong field so could upset.
Race 7
An open leg of the quaddie so go wide. In order: 7-2-6-5-8-1-3
Race 8
1.Salor Jerry fresh up here over 1400m looks good stretching out late to run second in the best closing sectionals of the race. Nicely bred and he is going to relish the step to 1600m. RP $3.50
Dangers:
10.Gitchee Gumee was unlucky last start but has had plenty of goes. Needs a perfect ride from Danielle.
2.Like A Boss ran a good second last start and will be fitter. 1600m looks ideal now too.
Race 9
Confidence: 2/5
2.Always More ran the smart Seajetz close on debut at Te Aroha on a heavy track. His action says a Dead 4 will be fine so he has to be hard to beat.
3.Cleverconversation rana very good third in R65 company last week so from the inside draw and a decent run, has to be a chance.
12.Spirit Of Gold bit stiff last start. Back to 1600m suits with a freshen up.
1.Oceana Lad good 4th in a stronger field last start. Just beaten here last December.
