11.Khufu was all the rage on debut after some smart trial form. He tired at Ellerslie after going too fast in front and setting up a fast time. He trialed in April and was snagged but got keen so was allowed to stride around them and travelled much better when in front and bolted in at Taupo. Then in his recent trial at Te Rapa he got back again after getting squeezed up, travelled a bit keenly and ran on well for third. He seems to race better in front and not under others so from the good draw, if he can jump and lead, this very good looking galloper from the Pike stable should be too good for these. RP $1.80, $2.20 FF

Danger is Rue Cler who looked good winning his last trial but that was on a heavy track and he does have an ideal wet track action, so the better surface probably won’t help his chances, so it gives a clear advantage to Khufu.

Race 4

3.Lord Esperanza ran a top second last start at Woodville. The winner had the advantage of the faster lane on the inside and the time was better than the two R65 races the same day. You know he will be at peak fitness now with Chrissy Bambry training him and from the draw will get every chance, plus he gets 3kgs off from in-form Elen Nicholas. RP $2.40, $3 Ff

Race 8 Woodville 13 August He just lost the bob with a gap to the rest. His closing sectionals were the best in all categories and he looks a solid chance to go one better next up.

The better surface will suit and with the 3kgs off, he should settle behind midfield and with an even tempo likely, he should be able to get out and get over this average field. RP $3.00, $4.20 Ff

5.Fiddyafortnight goes well fresh and strikes a weakish R65 field. If she can get into a good spot one off from that draw, she is a solid eachway chance. RP $5.00, $8 Ff and the early money indicates that.
