Saturday 16 April preview below

Update 8.45 a.m. Saturday

Good morning,

Some good racing here and in Australia today.

With the Bonus Backs up to $50 on the first four races at all NZ meetings I’ve gone through and found a few.

I’ll post an update by noon with any other bets and maybe an Australian quaddie bet.

For Milly’s Multi bet from Heads Up, I’ve put $20 win on Shanlord in race 2 at Hastings  at $2.50 and if he misses we still get the $20 back as a Bonus Bet which will go on Navalha in the last at Te Rapa. If he wins the $50 will still go on Navalha. Good luck.

Bet of the day Te Rapa Race 9 1.Navalha $1.90 FF 2nd

Value bet of the day Hastings Race 6 3.Cavallo Veloce $16 and $4.40 FF 3rd $4.20

Multi of the day Hastings Race 2 3.Shanlord $2.50 ( Back as a win bet up to $50 and get your money back if it misses ) and then all onto Navalha in race 9 at Te Rapa $1.90 FF

Early Saturday preview posted 5 p.m. Friday

Three good confidence bet so far below: Coventina Bay, Navalha and Fireburn. Dionysus looks good each way chance. I’ll post an update by 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

Milly won the $20 Multi on Heads Up and I’ll post his bet by noon Saturday.

Suggested late quaddie at Te Rapa ($50k Guaranteed) $19.20 for 20% Missed

Te Rapa

Race 1

Confidence:1/5

9.Montana Mist 1st $5.50 Has the draw against her but has been rating well in fields just as good as this. Last start was leading 100m out off a decent tempo and was swamped for third. She can begin well and if the inside on speed runners miss it, she can get into a good spot on pace and be an upset chance with the nice weight advantage. RP $3.50, $5.50 FF

Race 2

Confidence:2/5

6.Academy Award is a nice looking 2yo filly who ran a strong second on debut of a tough run. Looks a natural improver off that and with a top ride from Craig, she can go one better. RP $3.80, $4.80 FF

Race 7

Confidence:3/5

1.Coventina Bay has the Group 1 form against the best on the board. She is right on top of her game according to the trainer. The negative is she is likely to be 3 back inner behind a moderate tempo. But if they start sprinting around the 600m mark or earlier, she should get over these. RP $2.20, $2.40

Dangers:

7.Imperatriz  is a classy filly but this is her biggest test by far. Drawn to land in front of Coventina Bay and be the one Coventina Bay has to run down.

4.Mai Tai  rates third in the Formpro Ratings and she ran Sinarahma close at Trentham. Drawn to get the 1×1 and she will be spot on for this.

Race 9

Confidence:4/5

1.Navalha  won his first two races impressively. He has had two runs back now and the way he closed off in strong sectionals and good time last start, means he looks very well placed back in class. Plus he does look better left handed too. Should get every chance with Opie up and be very hard to beat. RP $1.70, $2.10

Hastings

Race 1

Confidence:2/5

5.Pontardwe 2nd  looked good winning his trial left handed at Te Rapa October last year easily beating smart subsequent winner Urban Myth. He came from the back, swept up wide and fought well to win. On debut he was crowded, got back and did things wrong down the straight. He looks much more comfortable left handed so looks a nice eachway chance against a weak field here. RP $4, $5.50FF

Race 2

Confidence:5/5 that we will get out money back in Bonus Bets 😊 And 3/5 that he can win on debut.

3.Shanlord looked good leading all the way in his trial right handed. Then in his last trial, drew out, snagged back but was caught 5 wide but ran on very nicely for an educational run for 4th. Out of the smart Stolen Dance ( 10 wins) and from 2 can lead or sit 2nd outer and can beat the favourite. RP $1.90, $2.50 FF

Race 3

Confidence:2/5

6.Viva Le Vada looked good just winning his two trials over 1000m with good loping strides. So the debut over 1400m and left handed ( looks better this way round) means the Pike trained nice galloper can win on debut from the good draw. RP $3.20, $3.50 FF

Race 5

Confidence:2/5

2.Khafeef looks a typical Dummy Myers set up off two sprints to a 2500m race that looks ideal for him. He has shown the ability to win a race like this and gets 2kgs off. Good eachway chance at nice odds. RP $6, $9 and $2.40 FF

Race 6

Confidence:2/5

3.Cavallo Veloce 3rd $4.20 was travelling like a winner last start and was held up and almost fell then was eased down. With a heap of pace in this he will get back but if he can get the gaps, which he should with the tempo, he can weave through and beat these. RP $9, $16 and $4.20 FF

Race 7

13.Dionysus would have won if he didn’t get interfered with over the last 200m at Avondale. He is a very good horse on a winning weight who will have improved with that last run. Needs a good ride but looks a solid eachway chance. RP $5

Riverton

Race 1

Confidence:2/5

10.Pure Zambezi 3rd $3.20 did very well fresh up when midfield wide in the open, improved to be closer wider on the turn and didn’t really lose much ground on the first few with much better runs. Drawn better here and up to 1400m does look better for her, plus the blinkers go on at the right time. Nice eachway chance at nice odds. Action and breeding suggest she will handle a heavy track RP $8, $13 and $3.80 FF

Race 2

Confidence:2/5

1.Double Prosperity 1st $5.50

His review comment last week was, ‘He ran the best closing sectionals in all categories coming from well back on the turn. More ground and a wetter track will be ideal for him third up.’

He gets both here, and can land handier, so looks a decent chance.
