Riccarton preview

Big fields at Riccarton and I have gone through each race and given my selections. Tauranga has light rain about and will be downgraded.

Race 1

4.The Bold Look ran the race of an improver on the first day and drawn the inside. RP $4, $4.20 FF

Race 2

Confidence:2/5

4.Sincere He has been racing as though 2000m will suit ideally. Trained by Andrew Carston who is a very good trainer and from the draw should get a good run. RP $8, $10 FF

Dangers:

17.Amazon Goddess is a blowout chance and can set a leisurely pace and be a good rough chance.

Race 3

Confidence:2/5

6.Ayreon He came home strongly down the outer last week and got fifth and ran the fastest last 200m. That indicates 2000m from the ace draw should suit ideally. There is no pace in the race and he has won by leading all of the way before so I wouldn’t be surprised if he did that again. RP $6, $8 FF

Dangers:

7.Boomtown Boy showed marked improvement last start to win on the good track and has drawn well to repeat the dose.

Race 4

Confidence:2/5

13.Decision Time She is capable of some excellent closing sectionals and with Lisa riding she can get a nice tuck in behind the pace and be the one to beat. RP $6, $8 FF

Dangers:

11.Say Satono Looks ideally placed here second up after a very good second fresh up. Andrew Carston trains and she will be spot on for this.

Race 5 

Confidence:2/5

10.Watch Out was ridden terribly on Wednesday when going forward and getting caught wide but fought well for sixth. I’m sure she will snag and try and slot in here and if she does she has to be a great chance at the weights. RP $4, $4.50 FF

Dangers:

4.Amberecho Is speaking nicely for this and make it an uncontested lead and with a 3 kg off can hold on and upset.

Race 6

Confidence:2/5

5.Good Oil He was taken on last week and fought on really well for second. He should get an uncontested lead here and if he does with the light weight he can hold on. RP $4.50, $6 FF

Dangers:

15.Opawa Jack Has had three runs back now and if ridden with cover is ready to strike form. 

Race 7

Confidence:2/5 1st $4.50 

9.Molly Bloom Has been very unlucky in her last two starts. The extra 200 m looks ideal and there is plenty of pace in the race to allow her to get over them. RP $4, $4 FF

Dangers:

2.Star Of Justice Won strongly last start and looks to have had an ideal preparation for this. Opie jumps on and looks a strong chance.

4.Chantilly Lace Has had an ideal preparation for this and the rain about will only help. The blinkers going on could be a masterstroke.

5.Luberon Last start she blew it when veering wide when looking to be going well. If she can cross and get to the rail she has to be  a chance but it will be interesting to see what she does this time.

Race 8

Confidence:2/5

4.Lilhoovesgotmoves Has had two runs back now and ran on well. Third up should get a fast pace up front and finish over the top of them. RP $7, $9 FF

Dangers:

10.Mystic Park won really well last week and has drawn well to go close again.

Race 9

Confidence:2/5

4.Not Guilty One really well last week and good time and stays on 53 kg there is no reason why I can’t see him repeating the dose. He should be on pace again and is very fit and got plenty of courage. RP $4.50 $7 FF

Dangers:

5.Maria Farina 1st $8 came home very strongly last week and the sectionals were excellent. The extra 200 m here will help and with a nice drag into it as the one Not Guilty has to beat.

 Race 10

Confidence:3/5

6.Richard Stomper Was on a good pace last week and fought on very gamely for second. Is third up now and peeking at the right time from a good draw. RP $4, $6 FF

 Race 11

Confidence:2/5

1.Aljay Won this race last year with 55 kilograms and has an ideal lead up for this year’s race. He went a terrific race after covering ground in the open last week and stuck on very gamely for third so is peaking nicely for this. He has a wide draw to contend with but with a good ride from Tina he will be hard to beat. RP $5, $8 FF

Dangers:

6.Waisake He won the Wellington cup two years ago and has been ideally placed in this. He has drawn wide but with a good ride has to be in this.

3.Uareastar She won the Auckland cup last year over 3200 m and has been well placed to peak for this. Drawn well and has a good rider on top.

7.NestEgg won well last week but had all favours. Drawn very wide this time but with a good run must be in this. 

Race 12

Confidence:2/5 2nd $3

5.Rusty Lane is a tough horse and talented. He won well fresh up and has targeted this race. Drawn out so will need a good ride. RP $4, $6 FF

Tauranga 

The Track is currently a Soft 5 and with light rain forecast all day, it will no doubt get worse.

Race 1

5.Sterling Princess has looked good at the trials and is out of 6 win mare On Parole which won a few on wet tracks. Drawn well and looked better right handed winning his first of 3 trials. RP $4

Race 5

Confidence:2/5

1.Kiwi Man ran the race of a next p winner when he was held up on the turn and came back strongly for fourth. That was his third run back and he will be spot on today. RP $4, $5 FF

Race 6

Confidence:2/5

2.Mercurial ran a game 2^nd here last start and is ready to strike fourth up. Should get a winning run. RP $3, $4.20 FF

Race 7

Confidence:2/5

1.Callsign Mav went very good races in Group 1 races and any rain won’t be a negative. Never raced right handed but with his racing experience, he should be ok. RP $3.50, $4.20FF
