Saturday preview

A bad day with weak efforts all around. Back tomorrow with a better effort hopefully!

Preview of Saturday. Please note the preview of Te Rapa tomorrow will be posted by 10 am.

With heavy tracks at Hastings and Riccarton I’ve selected just a couple of Good Confidence bets and four in Australia in decent tracks. It’s a day for the roses as the bet of the day and value bet of the day both have rose in their name!

Enjoy the ride.

Bet of the day Rosehill Race 2 Annie’s Rose $3.40 FF Scratched

Value Bet of the Day Rosehill Race 9 7.Verona Rose $7.50 FF  3rd $2.25

Multi of the Day Annie’s Rose to win and Verona Rose Top 3 $10 returns around $88

Rosehill

Race 2

Confidence:3/5

2.Annie’s Rose won here fresh up over 1100 metres in a good speed rating to make it two from two starts here. She was very unlucky next up at Randwick over 1200m. Drawn 1 here and she won her race over 1100 from 1 at the barrier. If she can get out ok and settle 3 back inner, she is a terrific chance of downing these again and making it 3 from 3. RP $2.40, $3.40 FF

Race 5

Confidence:3/5 Poor effort

3.Mr Verse last start, second up, he was behind midfield 3 wide with cover then into the straight was blocked then when clear, came strongly for fifth. He was strong through the line. he steps up to 1500m with good speed up front. Trained in Victoria so looks well placed here third up and drawn well to settle midfield on the rail and come with the last run at them. ( In race 10 at Flemington and likely to be scratched from there) RP $4, $7 FF

Race 7

Confidence:3/5 Weak effort after having every chance

8.Weeping Woman is ready to fly fresh up. Trained by Jo Pride, who trained Headly Grange who won for us last week. She has won 3 from 6 fresh up and has trialed three times. In her last trial she won it and looked ready to fire fresh up. Drawn 6 and has the early pace to land in the first 4 and be very hard to beat. RP $2.80, $4 FF

Race 9

Confidence:3/5 3rd 2.25

7.Verona Rose went a great race fresh last season over 1200m finishing fast late ( Best closing sectionals)  after being back and 3 wide with no cover. She gets 1300m here and a good map with decent speed up front. The favourite, Skyhook is the obvious one to beat but drawn wide so is in danger of being caught wide and working to get one off. Verona Rose, with the light weight and Zac Lloyd up looks excellent value here, RP $4, $8 FF

Hastings

Our track walker, Brendan, walked the track Thursday morning and said, “The inside 4 metres is softer than the rest of the straight. So there should be no disadvantage, or even advantage to closers out past that 4m in side strip. The rest of the track seems even.”

Race 3

Confidence:3/5 Weak effort

3.Will is a better than a maiden and put in two big efforts last campaign and was outridden last start when the winner got a break on him and just held on. He has a good wet track action and there are queries on the two favourites on a Heavy 9. RP $2.50, $5.50 FF, $6.50 Odds Surge

Race 6

Confidence:3/5 Weak effort despite pace being against

1.Procul Boy has run two very good seconds over 1200m which is too short for him. He steps to 1600m here third up with the blinkers going on. He will get back and with the 3kgs coming off, he can get to the outside and has done the closing sectionals to say he can take this out. $3.50, $7, $8 OS

Race 8

Confidence:2/5

9.Romanoff won his recent trial very well leading all the way, nice and relaxed and he dropped his head nicely. With the outer part of the straight being an advantage, he can drop back and with the even speed the 2000 Guineas winner, who is capable of a some excellent closing sectionals, can upset these with George Rooke on. RP $6, $10 FF, $12 OS

Riccarton

Race 7

Confidence:2/5

2.Outback Girl won strongly here fresh up and in faster time than the Open Handicap over the 1000m. She steps to 1200m and with natural improvement, and her obvious maturity, she looks the one to beat. RP $5, $6.50 FF

Dangers:

1.Sweetest Thing 1st $2 had excellent form last campaign and won her trial really well. Drawn to get a winning run and looks an obvious chance. RP $2.80, $1.95 FF

7.Platinum La Danse 2nd $4 was very unlucky in the Whanganui Guineas, and if they go hard enough, can swamp them.
